Bob RitterSpecial Agent United States Secret Service
Special Agent in Charge (SAIC) Charles Gittens led the Secret Service's Washington Field Office (WFO) during much of the turbulent 1970s. I was fortunate to have served under him for about four years. He was a fair and able supervisor. We always called him, "sir," or "Mr. Gittens," because he had truly earned our respect. Mr. Gittens was the first black agent hired by the USSS, and he worked many years on the street before rising through the managerial ranks. He had a tremendous amount of investigative experience and knowledge.A groundbreaking figure in history.
